About

Where bluegrass meets the blockchain

Justin Holmes

Traditional Music for the Digital Age

Justin Holmes is probably best known in bluegrass circles as "that throatsinging dude/guy." He plays guitar, mandolin, melodica, and tin whistle in his touring, rotating bluegrass band, The Immutable String Band.

With thousands of published contributions to open source cryptography and web codebases, Justin was until recently better known as a software engineer than a musician. His music blends bluegrass, old-time, and traditional music from around the world, with lyrics about cryptography, privacy, artificial intelligence, and the evolution of the internet.

Justin has been learning and practicing Tuvan Throatsinging and other overtone singing styles since 2004, and holds a brown belt in isshinryu karate.
